About Embecosm
Embecosm's mission is to provide world-class software
engineering that encompasses embedded software
development and hardware modeling. We want our customers
to have access to the best firmware engineering
technology and services, with deep understanding of both
the software and the hardware on which it will run.
Embecosm was founded by Dr Jeremy Bennett, an expert on
hardware modeling and embedded software
development. Prior to founding Embecosm, Dr Bennett was
Vice President of ARC International plc, following their
acquisition of Tenison Design, developers of the VTOC
tool set for cycle accurate modeling of SoC hardware,
where he had been CEO and CTO.
Before moving into industry in the mid-1990's, Dr
Bennett pursued academic research into computer
architecture, modeling and compiler technology at
Cambridge and Bath Universities in the UK. He is author
of numerous academic papers as well as the popular
textbook "Introduction to Compiling Techniques"
(McGraw-Hill 1990, 1995, 2003).
Dr Bennett holds an MA and PhD in Computer Science from
Cambridge University. He is a Member of the British
Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered
Information Technology Professional.
Jörn Rennecke is Embecosm's expert on the GNU
Compiler Collection. He has been a contributor to the
GCC project for the past 14 years and is widely
recognized as an expert on GCC back end code generation
for embedded processors.
Most recently Jörn has been the lead maintainer and
developer for the GCC port for the ARC 600 and ARC 700
processor cores. He was also part of ARC's team
contributing to the EU Milepost project. This project
added machine learning to GCC, and ARC contributed a
port of their ARCompact and SIMD co-processor
technology. Previously he was global maintainer for the
GCC port to the SH family of processors from their early
days with Hitachi and through their development with
SuperH and Renesas into what are now the SH4 and SH5
processors.
Mr Rennecke attended the University of Kaiserslautern,
Germany, where he studied Computer Science with
Mathematics, and the Fachhochschule Wedel, Germany,
where he studied Technical Computer Science.
