Welcome to Embecosm—home of open source services,
tools and models for embedded software development.
Embecosm brings together the open source GNU
tool chain and EDA modeling to
boost embedded software productivity. Our unique
technology allows your firmware engineers to start work
earlier, debug faster and deliver robust embedded
software reliably on time.
Our open source services, tools and models are the key
to successful firmware development:
-
Our flagship seamless, unified SoC firmware
development and debugging technology provides the same
standard environment from initial model to final
silicon.
-
Our comprehensive GNU tool chain porting and
optimization for embedded processors, takes advantage
of MilePost machine learning, for optimizing back-ends
that can continually improve.
-
Our model development is standards based, delivering
cycle accurate and transaction level hardware models
including OSCI SystemC TLM 2.0 compliance.
-
We provide full open source tool support, consultancy,
tutorials and training throughout the product life
cycle.
The Engineers Behind Embecosm
Embecosm was founded by Dr Jeremy
Bennett, an expert on hardware modeling and
embedded software development. Prior to founding
Embecosm, Dr Bennett was CEO and CTO of Tenison Design,
developers of the VTOC tool set for cycle accurate
modeling of SoC hardware.
Dr Bennett is author of numerous academic papers as well
as the popular textbook "Introduction to Compiling
Techniques" (McGraw-Hill 1990, 1995, 2003). He holds a
MA and PhD in Computer Science from Cambridge University
and is a Chartered Engineer.
Jörn Rennecke is Embecosm's expert
on the GNU Compiler Collection. He has been a
contributor to the GCC project for the past 14 years and
is widely recognized as an expert on GCC back end code
generation for embedded processors.
Most recently Jörn has been the lead maintainer and
developer for the GCC port for the ARC 600 and ARC 700
processor cores and SIMD co-processor, and was part of
ARC's team contributing to the EU MilePost
project. Previously he was global maintainer for the GCC
port to the SH family of processors from their early
days with Hitachi and through their development with
SuperH and Renesas into what are now the SH4 and SH5
processors.
Our Commitment to Open Source
Embecosm is a fully open source company. When we develop
something new, we give it back to the community. Visit
our download
pages for application notes, software packages and
articles, for you to freely download and reuse.
We can help you into the world of open source. We
provide support and training packages for popular open
source embedded and EDA tools. Most important we can
help bring your tool chain into mainstream open source
distributions, so that your products can have the widest
possible exposure to the worldwide engineering
community.
